Normdefy
Don't settle. Defy the Norm.
We observed that while there are many investments into the ESG space, notably in green/climate-related investments, the criteria being used to select these companies are not always aligned with a systems-based approach. Using key phrases to attract well-meaning investors, and presenting a front that seemingly aligns with ESG have become the current norm. But we think that this current norm is not nearly good enough.
Our goal has always been to prioritise areas that are essential to the realisation of a systems-based future, diverting resources into leaders who work towards (or at the very least do not compromise) achieving this future. Anything less would not be achieving a sustainable state; therefore, we believe it is essential to react accordingly, and not hesitate to align with the ambition of achieving this vision.
In light of this, we have created a Future-Fit Leaders index: this index is a selection of leaders dedicating resources to building resilient businesses in areas that systemically need to be addressed with the criteria of our Matters Framework, based on the Future-Fit Business Benchmark.
Future-Fit Leaders Index
Our Future-Fit Leaders Index (FFLI) consists of companies that are contributing to building resilient businesses in areas that systemically need to be addressed to work towards a flourishing environmentally restorative, socially just, and economically inclusive future. Advocating companies with reduced negative impact and added impactful contributions will expedite the rate of positive systematic change. To identify this selection of leaders, we utilised the criteria of our Matters Framework as well as consulted our core Matters Philosophies.
The Matters Philosophies are three ideals that are key to successful systemic change:
No Compromise
Anything less than 100% means not achieving a sustainable state.
No Leniency
Prioritise companies working towards a sustainable future state.
No Hesitation
It's essential to consider the rate of (re)action.
At ESG Matters, we strive to continuously enrich our understanding of the extra-financial dimensions of impact, ESG performance, and improve the selection and management of the FFLI's companies to optimise for positive outcomes. We carefully select KPI that are science-based indicators of future success in our evaluation mechanism. Quantitative assessment using a proprietary pico-evaluation mechanism, using a KPI-data-driven approach. The FFLI is positively screened for desirable industries, sectors, and portfolio themes that are impactful for systemic change.
We would like to create an opportunity for Asset Owners, Managers, and anybody who has become disillusioned with the ESG space to do a retrospective review of their own funds and investments. We welcome you all to challenge your performance against our Future-Fit Leaders Index’s baseline performance.
